‘Tis the season to lend a helpful hand to those in need and give back to your community. Alcen Renewables team was given two amazing opportunities to give back to the communities of Santa Ana Orange this holiday season.

The first event that our team was able to partake in was the Friendly Center’s Turkey Basket Drive! Each year, the Friendly Center holds this event for the families in Orange County that cannot provide a Thanksgiving meal for their families. For the 1 in 4 families living in poverty in Orange County, this is seen as a huge blessing to the community. Each family would get a turkey, stuffing, corn, pumpkin pie, and more. For Alcen Renewable, our job was to pass out the turkey’s and assist anyone who needed help carrying their bountiful baskets to their cars. This year, the center was able to provide an amazing Thanksgiving meal to over 100 families and pass out a total of 800 baskets, and we are thankful we were able to participate.

The second event to end the year, was the Wetland Restoration Day at the Heritage Museum of Orange County, which occurs every 1st Saturday of the month! Why is it so important to preserve our wetlands? Wetlands are a critical part of our natural environment. Wetlands provide better water quality, wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, and so much more! The main reason we want to restore and protect our wetlands is for its environmental benefits, which is needed more than ever. The Alcen team was able to help clean the trails that were damaged by heavy rainfall this past month, clean up weeds around plants, pick up trash and most importantly, map out observations of wildlife. When our team is looking at potential sites for solar or wind farms, if there is a wetland nearby, we won’t build near it because we want to help preserve ecological systems that help our environment as much as renewable energy helps.

We want to end this year thanking everyone who has made an impact on our communities and environmental life. With more countries and states within the United States vowing to reach 100% renewable energy, 2019 is looking great!
